The Nevada State Democratic Convention is scheduled to be held on June 26-27, 2010 at the Flamingo Hotel in Las Vegas. If you’re a delegate to the convention, you can pre-register here online to attend. On-site registration will open on Friday June 25th at 3:00 PM and will continue through 9:00 PM. Also slated on Friday evening from 6:30-8:30 PM is a Welcome Reception honoring Virginia Cain and John Ponticello for their service to the Democratic Party. Tickets for this reception are $60 individual, $50 each for two or more, and may be purchased using the online registration form (link above). Registration is also open on Saturday morning from 7:00-9:00 AM for those who are unable to register on Friday evening.
The Convention will be called to order at 9:00 AM on Saturday, June 26th. Business to come before the convention will include:
- Election of at-large NSDP executive board members
- Election of State Central Committee Members
- Adoption of the 2010 Nevada State Democratic Platform
The convention body will elect eight at-large members from Clark County, four at-large members from Washoe County, and two at-large members from Greater Nevada. If you wish to run for a seat on the Executive Board must be a registered Democrat in your county of residence. You’ll also need to complete and email, fax or mail/hand-deliver this nomination form to the Nevada State Democratic Party headquarters by 5:00 PM on Wednesday, June 23rd. It can be e-mailed to NSDP Secretary, Yvette Williams nominations@nvdems.com or mailed/faxed to Yvette Williams/Travis Brock at Fax #702-735-2700.
If you’re thinking about running for one of the two rural seats on the executive board, but you have questions about what that might entail, please give Cindy Trigg a call, or email her at ctrigg@nvdems.com, or f4trigg@aol.com. As a member of the executive board, you would need to be prepared to attend all of the quarterly meetings of the State Party.
The proposed ‘Platform’ should be posted on the NV Dems website by June 20th. Please take some time to read through the proposed Platform as soon as it’s available. If you feel that a change is needed, any proposed changes must be submitted to the Platform Committee prior to the platform coming to the floor for a vote. If the Platform Committee turns down your change request, it can only be brought to the floor by submitting the request for change accompanied by signatures from 50 delegates at the convention.
Lunch on Saturday will be “for purchase” and is not included in the convention registration fee.
Any questions about the convention, please feel free to email Cindy Trigg at ctrigg@nvdems.com.
