For those of you who might be interested in how the schedule for primary/caucus dates are established, the 2012 National Presidential Caucus is currently meeting. I came across their website yesterday purely by accident.
This is the group that sets the rules for which states go when relative to primary/caucus dates. They’re currently working on the schedule for the 2012 primary/caucus season, which must be defined before the GOP convention (since the GOP Bylaws dictates they must approve the schedule during their quadrennial convention … which will be held in September 2008).
In reviewing the video coverage available on their site, I was a bit disappointed with the lack of diversity amongst the committee members. The only man of color is the newsman and though the women comprise a greater majority of the electorate, there were NO female members of the committee! Plus, they did NOT include any members of the independent parties, just the DNC and RNC were participating. (I wasn’t able to determine if that was by design or ‘decline.’) Here are the main members of the committee:
Don Means, Director National Presidential Caucus
Bob Bennett, Ohio Republican Party
Jim Roosevelt, DNC RBC
David Norcross, RNC RBC
Mike Mauro, Iowa Secretary of State
