VOTER ALERT: Nevada Secretary of State Cegavske Advises Voters to Beware of Information Received from Non-Official Resources

(Carson City, NV; June 23, 2016) – As we enter the 2016 general election cycle, Nevada Secretary of State Barbara Cegavske would like to inform registered voters and individuals not registered to vote that they may be contacted by non-governmental organizations about their voter registration status. Nevadans are advised that the information provided by these organizations may not accurately reflect their official and current voter registration status.

Any person who receives voter registration status information from these organizations that does not appear to be accurate is encouraged to verify their voter information using the Secretary of State’s MyVoterFile verification tool at https://nvsos.gov/votersearch. MyVoterFile allows people to check their voter registration status and political party affiliation, as well as find important information about upcoming elections, including polling locations and electronic sample ballots. Anybody who is concerned that the information they received from these voter outreach organizations may be inaccurate is encouraged to check their voter registration status online before contacting their local election official or the Secretary of State’s office.

Secretary Cegavske also reminds people that all official election mail from the Secretary of State’s office and local election officials will contain the following logo:

Although mail from non-governmental voter participation organizations may appear to be official correspondence from state or local election officials, Nevadans are encouraged to read the entire mail piece, including the fine print, to determine the name of the sender.
