January 21st is just around the corner and we need to train up to be ready to hold our Humboldt County Democratic Caucus. We have two very qualified people who will be here to help us learn everything we’ll need to know and be ready for those who show up to participate in the caucus.
Tami Spero, Humboldt County Clerk: Ins/Outs of registering people as Democrats. Of significance here is that we (the Democrats) have an open-caucus, whereas the Republicans have a closed-caucus that will be held on a different date. To be able to participate in the Republican caucus, voters must be registered as ‘Republican’ 30-days prior to the Republican caucus date. Thus, it appears that, should a Republican register as a Democrat to participate in the Democratic Caucus, they may be ineligible to participate in the Republican Caucus. Tami is looking into that question and will talk about what we can say/do to avoid any claims of voter suppression.
Kathleen McKevitt, NSDP Presidential Rural Caucus Rep: Caucus training. Kathleen will help us learn everything we need to learn in order to hold a successful Democratic Caucus on Saturday, January 21, 2012 at the French Ford Middle School.
If you’re planning to participate in the Democratic Caucus in January, please make plans to attend this month’s meeting. We’ll need some help to be able to manage and run the caucus and we would appreciate some help.
Since this meeting is at the dinner hour, Vickie will have a chicken-macaroni salad, chips and sodas available for attendees. If you’d like to bring along a little pot-luck goodie of your own, you’re more than welcome to do so.
